If a duet with boxer Tyson Fury on his new album wasn’t enough festive fun from British artist Robbie Williams, now he’s getting a five-part podcast to promote it.
‘At Home with the Williamses’ will also feature his wife Ayda Field; her mother and his father, promising “discussions about the big food shop, decorating the tree, Robbie & Ayda’s all-time favourite Christmas songs, and festive present faux-pas”. And while you may snort at the idea of this being interesting, we bet that the show generates at least a few newspaper stories in the coming weeks – and thus promotion for the album – with the UK tabloids waking up to the headline-making potential of even relatively-banal celebrity chat in podcasts. Sony Music UK’s 4th Floor Creative team produced the podcast for Williams.
It’s a good week for new podcasts. Music magazine Loud & Quiet’s founder Stuart Stubbs has launched ‘Music Made Me Do It’, a 10-part show talking to music-industry figures about their careers – including producer Paul Epworth, PR veteran Barbara Charone and Beggars Group founder Martin Mills. Meanwhile, the ABC Music Talk podcast has just released an episode interviewing Music Ally’s own Eamonn Forde about his career in journalism.
