SOCAN Foundation launches music-production mentorship program

Canadian organisation the SOCAN Foundation – part of collecting society SOCAN’s group of companies – is launching a new program aimed at emerging music-producers who are women. It’s called the Equity X Production Mentorship Program, and will see up to 25 women and gender minorities picked for a three-day program in Toronto in January 2020.

RBC, Ableton, and Signal Community Forum are on board as supporters, with the foundation saying that the event was inspired by a report published earlier this year by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, showing that only 2.1% of producers of Billboard top-100 tracks between 2012 snd 2018 were women. “The Equity X Production Mentorship Program strives to address the lack of diverse representation among producers,” said the foundation’s executive director Charlie Wall-Andrews.
