Details have emerged about the team Sony Music is putting together in its New York office to produce and make money from podcasts.
An internal memo from execs Dennis Kooker and Tom Mackay outlined the four key executives working on what they describe as a “key area of creative and business development”. They are: SVP of business development and operations, podcasting, Emily Rasekh – formerly of Entercom and CBS Radio; VP of sales, podcasting, Brittany Hall, formerly of Pandora; VP of revenue operations, podcasting, Ryan Zack, formerly at Megaphone and Acast; and VP of marketing, podcasting, Christy Mirabel, formerly at Stitcher and Panoply Media. “Together this leadership team strongly positions us to super-serve the podcast community, help them reach larger audiences on more platforms and further grow our podcasting business opportunities around the world,” wrote Kooker and Mackay.
It’s a glimpse at the structure being put in place by the major label, which has also launched two podcasting joint-ventures with external producers (one in the US and one in the UK); launched an investigative-journalism podcast about Jeffrey Epstein; and announced plans for a daily satirical podcast with The Onion.
