US collecting society ASCAP is getting into the podcasts game. Its first show is called ‘Versed: The ASCAP Podcast’ and will focus on interviews with musicians. Its own chairman and president Paul Williams (who helpfully is also a well-known songwriter) is one of the first guests, alongside country artist Carly Pearce and composer Nicholas Britell.
It’s thus the latest podcast to focus on the stories of songwriters and composers in particular – we explored some of the others in the ‘Pod Only Knows’ report we published with the BPI earlier this year.
ASCAP’s VP and creative director Erik Philbrook will co-host the new podcast, with the promise that topics discussed will include “copyright, music publishing, songwriting splits, advocacy, tech innovations, music streaming services, health and wellness and more”.
