Amazon is the latest streaming service to publish some year-end charts, including a new name as its most popular artist of 2019 in the US.

Taylor Swift takes that honour for Amazon Music, joining Post Malone (Spotify) and J Balvin (Deezer), while Billie Eilish was Apple’s editor-chosen ‘Global Artist of the Year’, and Daddy Yankee / Snow had YouTube’s top music video.

Back to Amazon, and its most popular album in the US was Swift’s ‘Lover’; its most-streamed song was Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus’ ‘Old Town Road (Remix)’ – also the most-requested track via Alexa. Amazon also said that of the top 50 requests for country lyrics this year, 44 were ‘some variation on the lyrics to Old Town Road’.

It seems so long ago now (actually only March) that Lil Nas X’s track was sparking controversy over whether it should be included in the US country charts or not. Nine months later, it’s one of the defining tracks of 2019 in any genre – including country.
