Spotify’s latest music-focused original podcast focuses on reggaeton star J Balvin. The show is called ‘Made in Medellín’, and over six episodes it’ll tell the tale of José Álvaro Osorio Balvin’s rise to stardom – narrated by the artist himself.
The podcast will be exclusive to Spotify, and all its episodes plus a couple of shorter ‘interludes’ were made available yesterday. It’s a Spanish-language show (or at least, at the moment we can only find a Spanish-language version on Spotify.)
Balvin remains one of the most popular artists globally on the streaming service. At the time of writing, he has 58.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify, making him the fourth most popular artist on the platform behind only Ed Sheeran (65.1m), Camila Cabello (59.9m) and Justin Bieber (59.5m).
This isn’t the first time fans have been given the chance to bone up on J Balvin’s backstory however. In August 2018, he was the subject for one of YouTube’s artist spotlight stories, ‘Redefining Mainstream’ – “a portrait of his life from a more personal perspective than we have seen before. From his early days freestyling in the streets and barbershops of Medellín, Colombia, to sold out arena shows across the globe”. That English-language show has been watched 17.6m times so far.
