Apple Music has steadily been creating spin-off Beats 1 radio shows for its big editorial playlists, with the alternative-focused ‘ALT CTRL’ the latest to get the treatment.
Beats 1’s Hanuman Welch will host the weekly radio show, which will focus on the latest alternative tracks to hit the playlist, as well as an interview with whoever that week’s cover star is. Billie Eilish, The 1975 and White Reaper are among the artists promised for future shows.
The blurb for the show also offers a glimpse at how Apple is defining ‘alternative’ in 2020, noting that the playlist and show “is a home for artists (and like-minded listeners) who see the world a bit differently, whether they gravitate towards guitars, electronics, or a modern collision of the two”.
The new show’s global launch comes a few days after Apple debuted a new alternative-themed playlist focusing specifically on British music: Antidote.
