US performing rights organisation BMI has settled its rates dispute with the Radio Music License Committee (RMLC) and signed a deal that will cover radio royalties from 2017 to 2021 – a date span that clearly illustrates how long the dispute has lasted so far.
“The new license carries a rate that reflects the strength of BMI’s repertoire and its share of radio spins, which is higher than any other Performing Rights Organization,” claimed BMI’s press release announcing the deal, which we imagine may spark some discussion at those other PROs in the US.
“BMI looks forward to working with the RMLC to improve transparency in the marketplace and enhance the flow of information between our two organizations,” said president and CEO Mike O’Neill. Besides the licensing deal, backdated to 2017, RMLC has agreed ‘a one-time payment to BMI for litigation fees’.
