One of the most interesting things about juggernaut gaming success Fortnite is its TV-like ‘seasons’ approach to rolling out new content. Every few months, a new season begins, with new features and locations for players to explore.

Yesterday saw the second season of Fortnite’s second ‘chapter’ kick off with the sub-title ‘Top Secret’. That means a spy theme: “The island has been taken over by covert operatives – Ghost and Shadow – and its fate is in your hands,” players were told, as they were encouraged to “infiltrate enemy bases, neutralise the henchmen guards and face off against their leader to snag unique and powerful weapons”. There’s also a part-human part-cat character called Meowscles, and – in Fortnite’s latest media/brand partnership – a skin based on Marvel character Deadpool. As ever, players can buy a ‘battle pass’ that will help them unlock lots more items and skins, paying 950 V-Bucks (around $10) for the season, which is expected to run until the end of April.
