YouTube is officially changing the name of the ‘Trending’ tab in its mobile app to ‘Explore’, with changes to the videos that people will find under that tab too.

“With Explore, you not only have access to Trending videos, but also to destination pages for some popular content categories like Gaming, Music, Fashion & Beauty, Learning and more – all from one place,” explains a message on YouTube’s support website. “This update is rolling out over the next few days across mobile and tablet devices (both Android and iOS)”.

There’ll also be more prominence for channels that YouTube has deemed worthy of ‘Creator on the Rise’ and ‘Artist on the Rise’ designation. “As you scroll through your Explore feed, you’ll see ‘Creator on the Rise’ and ‘Artist on the Rise’ before other trending videos,” it explains. That could mean that emerging artists get a significant boost to the view counts for their videos and (as long as people like them) also to their channel subscribers.
