How’s your dubstep and UK garage knowledge? If you’re clued in, you might want to tune in for artist Plastician on his Twitch channel, where he’s been holding regular pub quizzes on the genres. He’s one of the DJs profiled in a new Pitchfork article about livestreaming, which notes that Plastician has gone more down the interaction route than simply playing music.

“I want to engage a bit more with my viewers, and people who use Twitch are used to being in the chat.” It’s a good illustration of how Twitch can take time to build a grassroots audience: Plastician has added around 1,000 followers in the last month, and is averaging around 250 people per broadcast – something that has helped him reach ‘partner’ status on Twitch, with its improved monetisation options. “I’m not sure whether or not this will become a legit revenue stream or not,” he admitted: but it’s still a good example of a musician thinking around their music, and also thinking about what may work well on a platform like Twitch.
