Pharrell Williams and his I Am Other creative company are working with SoundCloud to create a compilation for new artists. Artists hoping to take part must upload a track to SoundCloud with the #SCxiamOTHER hashtag, then the best 10 (or possibly more) will be picked by Williams and his team. The resulting ‘SoundCloud Presents: i am OTHER, Volume 1’ compilation will be released next month not just on SoundCloud but also other DSPs, via SoundCloud’s marketing and distribution arm, Repost Select.
The winning creators will also be fast-tracked into Repost Select and get financial backing for projects from SoundCloud’s new $10m accelerator fund. In terms of entries, SoundCloud says it is looking for songs “that reflect the present-day mood, promote a positive message and push the boundaries of innovation in music”. It adds that net profits from this will go to the Sweet Relief and Help Musicians charities.
