TikTok is launching a new feature, ‘Donation Stickers’, that will enable creators on the app to encourage their followers to donate to charities. This isn’t only about music, but music industry charities MusiCares and Help Musicians are two of the first to be supported through the feature. The stickers can be added to videos, and then when viewers tap them, they’ll be taken to a donation page within TikTok. The app is working with fundraising company Tiltify to make it all work, and TikTok will be matching donations made through it until 27 May. “By working with Help Musicians, we hope that the collective contribution from TikTok and our community will play a part in preserving the UK’s vibrant and diverse music industry in these challenging times,” said Paul Hourican, the former MTV and YouTube exec who’s now head of music operations in the UK for TikTok.

In other positive news, British collecting society PPL is making an advance payment in April of £23.9m to performers and recordings rightsholders, brought forward from its typical June distribution, in an effort to help its members through the current situation.

Finally today, Bandcamp has announced plans for three more days when it will waive its revenue share and encourage fans to buy music and merch from artists using its platform. 1 May, 5 June and 3 July are the days, with the first event on 20 March having drummed up $4.3m in sales.
