Industry body Songwriters of North America (SONA) has launched a new hardship fund for songwriters, which will distribute emergency grants of $1k to creators hit by the Covid-19 pandemic’s economic impact. The new fund was set up thanks to a donation from publisher Sony/ATV last month, reported Billboard.

Also in the US, collecting society BMI partnered with various radio broadcasters to hold a concert called ‘A Salute to the Songwriters‘ on Saturday (16 May) to raise money for the MusiCares Covid-19 Relief Fund. Broadcast on more than 100 country radio stations, the event was co-hosted by Luke Bryan, with a range of songwriters performing their songs and talking about the stories behind them.

Finally, and in more country news, Keith Urban played a concert at a drive-in cinema near Nashville last week for an audience of medical workers. Urban worked with Live Nation to plan the concert as a thank-you to the healthcare workers – although it’ll also have been useful as a test for further concerts of this type.
