We’ve reported recently on one trend in DJ apps, which is Spotify shutting down their access to its API, forcing those that use streaming services as a source to turn to other DSPs, or even license directly. Still, those DJ app companies are also pressing on with new features, with two of them – Algoriddim and VirtualDJ – announcing their latest moves last week.
Algoriddim updated its djay app to add a feature called ‘Neural Mix’, which uses AI technology to separate music tracks in real-time, so that DJs can mix with the individual elements of tracks (vocals, rhythm etc). The new ‘djay Pro AI’ update also offers automatic mixing and transitions, and works with various MIDI controllers.
Algoriddim isn’t alone in letting DJs play with the elements of tracks though. Another DJ app, VirtualDJ, has launched its 2021 update, also promising real-time stem separation, to help DJs “create live mash-ups and remixes in real-time easily”. Both updates should find a decent audience: Algoriddim says that djay has “millions” of users, while VirtualDJ has totted up 100m downloads so far.
