Here’s some Covid-19-related good news from the UK: this weekend’s #loverecordstores event, which encouraged fans to buy online from independent favourite record stores, was a success.

According to the organisers, the day notched up more than £1m of sales for the retailers, buoyed by 83 new and reissued vinyl releases, with the 50k units nearly selling out within an hour of going on sale online.

Meanwhile, a range of t-shirts raised thousands of pounds for the UK Music Venue Trust’s #saveourvenues campaign, which is focusing on independent venues.

“The feedback we’ve had from participating record stores has been phenomenal with reports of some doing a month’s business in less than an hour on Saturday,” said Pias MD Jason Rackham, one of the campaign’s organisers.
