Strike while the iron is hot, eh? Or in Instagram’s case, perhaps that should be: strike while the rival is banned in its biggest (non-China) market, and under threat of a ban in its second biggest.
TikTok’s troubles have opened an opportunity for Instagram’s ‘Reels’ feature, which has been in testing since last year. The feature lets people make 15-second video clips with (licensed) music soundtracks.
NBC reported yesterday that Reels will be launching in more than 50 countries “in a matter of weeks”, although it’s already available in Brazil, France, Germany and India.
After that report was published, Instagram confirmed the news to TechCrunch. “We’re excited to bring Reels to more countries, including the US, in early August,” said its spokesperson.
