Inside Lands

One of the reasons Twitch is such a sensitive issue right now is that while rightsholders are pressuring it to strike licensing deals, a growing number of artists, DJs and even festivals are turning to the platform to reach audiences during the continued live-music shutdown.

The latest example is the US-based Outside Lands festival, which is launching a free virtual event called Inside Lands on 28-29 August. It’ll be streaming archive sets as well as exclusive new performances on its Twitch channel, along with artist interviews and coverage of “the festival curators, small businesses and community that make Outside Lands truly one of a kind”.

On the last of those, Outside Lands wants people to send it 30-second videos recounting their favourite memories of the festival in past years, which can then be incorporated into the broadcast.

The stream will also promote next August’s Outside Lands 2021, for which the initial lineup has already been announced and tickets put on sale.
