The latest burst of original music on TikTok comes courtesy of a growing number of British rappers, as part of a hashtag challenge organised with Black music brand Mixtape Madness.

#TTFreestyle is challenging rappers to post 30-60 second videos freestyling over an instrumental beat – some using TikTok’s ‘duet’ feature to battle one another. Mixtape Madness enlisted several prominent artists to kick the challenge off, including Dizzee RascalRak-SuChris Cash and Lost Girl.

The challenge launched yesterday (19 August) and videos using the #TTFreestyle hashtag had generated 2.7m views at the time of writing. The professional artists are a good start, but the success of the challenge may depend on whether some popular TikTok influencers pick up on it (and, of course, whether they’re any good at rapping – not that this necessarily will stop them…)

Music Ally’s next Learn Live webinar will help you understand what’s required for artists to thrive in new international markets!
