We recently reported on Indian short-video app Moj, which claimed it had 50m users only one month after launch, as users dashed to other platforms – including Roposo, Zili and Dubsmash – after TikTok was banned in India. Users of Moj now have a new catalogue of songs to chose from, as ShareChat – the social networking firm that launched Moj – became the first social media platform to sign a licensing deal with Indian music company T-Series.

This deal brings some giant user figures together: T-Series has over 150 million subscribers on its flagship Youtube channel, while ShareChat and Moj’s platforms report 180 million active users. The licensing deal follows T-Series president Neeraj Kalyan’s criticism of Indian apps he claimed were using the label’s music without permission, so it’ll be interesting to see if this is the first of a series of deals with other short-video apps.
