The latest study from the Pew Research Center focuses on differences in how Democrats and Republicans in the US behave on Twitter.
Surprise! Democrats are more likely to be following Barack Obama while Republicans are more likely to be following Donald Trump. Who’d have guessed?
But snark aside, there’s an interesting stat in the study that goes beyond politics to shed light on Twitter as a whole.
“Just 10% of users produced 92% of all tweets from US adults since last November, claimed Pew. And later on in its findings: “The median US adult Twitter user tweeted just once per month during the time period of the study.”
Remember, tweeting isn’t the only metric showing how people engage with Twitter – a lot of people read rather than post – but it’s a reminder of the ratios involved.
