Mobile analytics firm App Annie is predicting that TikTok will have more than 1.2 billion monthly active users by the end of 2021, after crossing the one billion mark this year.

That would be some growth: figures published recently as part of TikTok’s legal battle in the US showed that it had 689.2 million monthly active users worldwide in July this year.

Talking of that legal battle, there are developments this week, and they concern… a lack of developments.

TikTok says it has not heard from the Trump administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) – the body overseeing its forced sale in the US – in several weeks.

This, despite a notional deadline of tomorrow (12 November) for the sale to take place. TikTok has now filed a petition in the US Court of Appeals calling for the order to be overturned.

With a presidential transition that is… complicated, it’s unclear whether the current administration will be ready to push through the TikTok deal – or even to set a new deadline.
