ByteDance has been given a new deadline to sell or shut down TikTok in the US.

The Trump administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) now says that the divestment must happen by 27 November, although as The Verge reported, there is some doubt around even that deadline.

Why? Because a federal court has already issued an injunction against the CFIUS ruling, after it was challenged by some TikTokers.

Meanwhile, with Donald Trump still (at the time of writing) refusing to concede the recent presidential election, the tensions around the transition to the next administration is sowing even more confusion for the TikTok divestment process.

The new CFIUS extension does at least represent activity from the administration. Last week, TikTok said it had not heard from the body for several weeks.
