It’s nearly a year since Apple Music held its first awards, anointing Billie Eilish as its inaugural ‘global artist of the year’ with additional prizes for Lizzo and Lil Nas X.

Now the awards have returned for a second year, with an announcement today to be followed by a week of performances and online content across Apple’s services in December.

This time round, the artist of the year is Lil Baby, and the breakthrough artist of the year is Megan Thee Stallion (with a stat: ‘WAP’ and ‘Savage’ have been streamed more than 300m times globally on Apple Music so far). Taylor Swift is Apple’s songwriter of the year, and Roddy Ricch takes the gongs for song of the year (‘The Box’, which has more than 460m streams on Apple Music) and album of the year (‘Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial’, which has more than 1.5bn streams on the platform.)
