Sony Music is leaning in to the music/tech startups industry in Brazil with a new ‘Digital Accelerator Programme’. It’s looking for inventive music projects using AI and machine learning that could be used to support artists.

The scheme kicked off with a hackathon called ‘code/stage‘, which Sony says is the first-ever hackathon from a major music company in Brazil, which saw 30 mentors from the label working with more than 300 developers to create more than 30 projects.

The winners include Feel The Music, which translates a track’s rhythm into smartphone vibrations for hearing-impaired listeners; Avai, which matches images to music playlists using AI; and Filtr Hit, which encourages fans to use the label’s tracks in their social videos.
