We reported last month about Spotify’s plans to host a livestreamed concert branded under its ‘Tokyo Super Hits’ playlist. The gig took place last week, and according to Spotify it attracted “hundreds of thousands of people” from J-Pop fans well beyond Japan.
Arashi, Perfume, End of the World and Alexandros were among the bigger stars performing, along with artists flagged by Spotify’s ‘Early Noise’ emerging playlist in Japan, including Vicke Blanka, Vaundy and Macaroni Empitsu.
Spotify is proud that the event was the top trending hashtag on Twitter during its three-hour run. We’re more interested in speculating whether this signals wider plans for Spotify to do more with livestreaming in 2021…
