There are still plenty of partnerships to be done between music streaming services and telcos, in established and high-potential markets alike. The latest example of the former is Deezer’s tie-up with Austrian company A1 Telekom to launch a co-branded streaming service, ‘A1 Xplore Music by Deezer’, in Austria and across eastern Europe. It’s starting with an offer to 8.5 million of the telco’s customers in Austria, Slovenia and Bulgaria, with more to follow early in 2021.
Elsewhere, Africa remains a market ripe with potential for DSP-telco deals. Nigerian streaming service uduX has just announced one with MTN in its home country, which will see the telco’s customers getting discounts on data bundles when using its app. uduX has deals with all three global major labels, as well as for local artists. Note, uduX isn’t the only streaming service that MTN is working with: in September it also struck a deal with Tidal.
