We’ve written about games publisher Riot Games’ work creating virtual artists like K/DA, including that group’s live return at the recent League of Legends World Championship in Shanghai – Riot’s flagship esports event. Now the company has revealed how many people were watching, across various online video platforms.
The company says that the Championship’s peak concurrent audience was just under 46 million people, while its AMA (average minute audience, across the event) was just over 23 million.
Over the course of the tournament more than one billion hours of League of Legends gameplay was watched online. Not a bad event to debut a new musical performance from your flagship virtual pop group. The (non-live) YouTube video of that opening ceremony has also been watched more than 3m times so far.
