Latin America has long been one of Deezer’s strongest territories outside its homeland France. Now the company says that its active usage in Mexico grew by 20% in three months this summer, thanks to its partnership with broadcaster TV Azteca. This was the July deal that saw the latter company commit to a $40m investment in Deezer, valuing the company at $1.4bn. B

esides active usage – a metric based on App Annie measurements of Mexicans using Deezer’s mobile app – Deezer also said that its app was downloaded 3m times in Mexico between January and October this year, up 50% year-on-year. Meanwhile, its streams were up by 43% between July and November.

Spotify remains an intimidating rival in Mexico, but Deezer is talking up its prospects. “We see an opportunity here for us to become the preferred music streaming app for Mexican music fans,” said CCO Laurence Miall-d’Août.
