The speculation about Amazon buying podcast producer Wondery was correct: the deal was announced at the end of December. Specifically, Wondery will now be part of Amazon Music, emphasising Amazon’s music streaming service’s push into podcasting – even though sister service Audible has been producing original podcasts for a while now too.

“When the deal closes, nothing will change for listeners, and they’ll continue to be able to access Wondery podcasts through a variety of providers,” promised Amazon. “With Amazon Music, Wondery will be able to provide even more high-quality, innovative content and continue their mission of bringing a world of entertainment and knowledge to their audiences, wherever they listen.”

The bigger picture is an expansion of Amazon Music’s content: it added podcasts in September 2020music videos in December; and has also integrated livestreams from another sister service, Twitch.
