At the height of the #TheShowMustBePaused campaign last year, there were lots of promises and some big-budget funds created by the major labels in the US.

2020 ended with some more promises, courtesy of a joint statement from the three majors’ diversity, equity and inclusion bosses and their counterparts at the Recording Academy. “We stand in solidarity with #TheShowMustBePaused and the progress Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang have accomplished this year. We share the common goal of working to ensure that the companies we represent are doing the deep work to examine systemic racism and inequity, and are taking the necessary actions to accelerate progress on representation, equity and meaningful community engagement with and for Black people and communities,” they announced. How, though? Separately, this plan co-published by the Recording Academy and Color of Change sets out some of their plans.
