We reported in January on the new US Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) getting up and running with its blanket mechanical licence for streaming services. But to take advantage, those DSPs need to submit ‘notices of license’ to the MLC.

Now the body has published a list of the services who have applied so far. Apple Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, MixCloud, Sonos, SoundCloud, Spotify and YouTube are among the more prominent names on the list, with Amazon Music and Pandora the two obvious big names missing. Note, this is just a list of the companies who have submitted notices of license so far: the MLC makes it clear that “the posting of these Notices does not constitute certification or approval by The MLC of the accuracy of information in any Notice, the validity of any certification, or the eligibility of any DSP to submit a Notice and/or operate under a blanket license”.
