Apparently tech mogul Elon Musk has just agreed to do Clubhouse with Kanye West, which is either the latest proof of the audio-debating-club’s amazing disruptive potential, or the latest proof that it’s a hellhole of blowhards. Delete according to preference.
But Clubhouse *is* having a bit of a moment right now: even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg dropped in to its conversation recently. If you saw that as triggering a countdown to Facebook developing its own clone of the app, well, 3… 2… 1… “Facebook is building an audio chat product that is similar to the popular young app Clubhouse, according to two people with knowledge of the matter,” reported the New York Times yesterday. “Facebook executives have ordered employees to create a similar product, said the people.”
With Twitter also rolling out its new ‘Spaces’ Clubhouse-a-like feature, the startup has big-tech competition on all sides. At least it has the Musk/West seal of approval, eh? Although even writing ‘Musk/West’ is giving us worrying premonitions of the 2024 presidential race…
