We reported on Justin Bieber’s plans for a Valentine’s Day livestream on TikTok – the first such event since the social app signed an expanded deal with Universal Music Group. Sit down for this revelation: lots of people wanted to watch the #JournalsLive concert.

According to TikTok, the event generated more than 4m unique views over its two broadcasts at the weekend, doubling the previous record set by The Weeknd in August last year.

The livestream focused on Bieber’s 2013 album ‘Journals’ and there was a knock-on effect for streams of that elsewhere, as album tracks shot up the streaming and download charts in various countries.

TikTok also noted that Bieber’s TikTok following has grown by 700k since the concert was announced, taking him to more than 20.3 million followers on the app.
