Anyone can join Twitch, but you can’t start making decent money from it until you have ‘affiliate’ status, which unlocks features like channel subscriptions, bits and ad revenue sharing.

DistroKid is the latest distributor to sign a partnership with Twitch to fast-track musicians to affiliate status, hopping over the stage where they have to stream for hours and hours to one woman and her dog before slowly building a big enough audience to qualify. “DistroKid worked with Twitch to extend their Affiliate qualifications to recognise the work that DistroKid members have put into creating music & building fans across music streaming services,” explained the company.

This isn’t the first example of such a partnership: SoundCloud and Bandsintown did it last March, in the early days of the Covid-19 lockdown.
