Facebook’s experimental studio NPE Team has launched its second music product: a video-sharing app called Bars, for rappers. It comes 10 months after the studio launched music-making app Collab.

Available in the US App Store with an invitation-only closed beta, Bars offers a catalogue of pre-created beats for people to rap over, with lyrical features including rhyme suggestions and a freestyle ‘challenge’ mode with automatically suggested words to use.

“I know access to high-priced recording studios and production equipment can be limited for aspiring rappers. On top of that, the global pandemic shut down live performances where we often create and share our work. So, along with a group of aspiring rappers, we’ve been building Bars: a place for aspiring rappers to create and share their art,” explained DJ Iyer, community manager for Bars (and hip-hop songwriter and ghostwriter).
