Sensor Tower and App Annie are the two most high-profile research firms tracking the apps market. By a quirk of fate, both published some new stats yesterday around wellness and fitness apps – a current area of hot interest from the music industry.
Sensor Tower predicted that ‘mental wellness’ apps will be downloaded more than 1bn times in 2021, adding that since the first Covid-19 lockdowns in March 2020, the category has generated more than $100m of in-app spending every month. Calm and Headspace are two of the key apps in this sector.
App Annie’s new report focuses on Internet of Things and fitness apps, one of which is Peloton, whose app it estimates saw a 190% growth in global downloads last year. Mi Fit, Strava and MyFitnessPal remain the top apps in this category by downloads in 2020, however.
