Another day, another ‘Clubhouse competitor’, and this one is the work of Facebook’s experimental apps team. Which means it’s getting plenty of headlines (yes, us too) and will probably get a few more if/when it’s quietly closed down in 8-12 months’ time. Anyway, Hotline is an app for people to give video presentations then take questions from their audience, so it’s a little more formal than Clubhouse, but obviously the video element is lacking from the latter.

Facebook told TechCrunch that it’s focusing on speakers who can help people expand their professional skills or finances.

While we’re on the topic of Clubhouse, Bloomberg claims that Twitter held talks with that startup about a potential acquisition for around $4bn, but that they have now ended. Twitter, of course, is testing its own Clubhouse-style feature called Spaces.
