The feeding frenzy around music catalogues continues, with a new player entering the market this week.
CTM Outlander Music is a joint venture between US investment firm Outlander Capital Management and Dutch music firm CTM. The new entity is planning to acquire publishing and master recording rights, and claims that it will spend $1bn over the next five years. It’s already spent some of that money: on buying the publishing assets of Ten Music Group, whose catalogue includes songs recorded by the likes of Rihanna, Shakira and Zara Larsson.
The new venture isn’t just about standard buy-ups though: CTM Outlander Music will also be buying “the rights necessary for holographic performances and the issuance of non-fungible tokens”.
