We wrote about startup Pearpop in October last year, when it launched as a way for TikTok stars to charge fans for the privilege of making collaborative videos with them. Now the company has raised $16m of funding to continue its growth, and some prominent musicians are among the investors.
The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, Diddy, Marshmello and Snoop Dogg are among the celebrities chipping in to the round, alongside Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, entrepreneur Mark Cuban and influencer MrBeast.
“They’ve introduced this mechanism by which larger creators can help smaller creators and everyone has something of value to offer something to everyone else in the ecosystem,” Li Jin, founder of Atelier Ventures which also invested in the round, told TechCrunch.
The report notes that Snoop Dogg is one of the bigger stars that has also collaborated with fans via Pearpop, which takes a 25% cut of transactions. Like Cameo, the pricing is public.
Prominent musicians on Pearpop include Snoop and Bhad Bhabie, and collabs with both start at $250, although Tyga is charging double that at $500.
