The Real Slim Shady leapt aboard the NFTs bandwagon this weekend, as Eminem dropped his ‘Shady Con’ digital collectibles. Thankfully, the ‘Con’ here did not refer to any fan-fleecing shenanigans, but rather to the fact that the collection was “inspired by Eminem’s passion as a vintage toy, comic book and trading card collector that traces back to his childhood days… this is a digital festival- modeled after the traditional ‘Con’ gatherings where fans come together and trade their wares.”
Based on action figures, the collection also included some original beats – “produced by Slim Shady himself specifically for this release” according to the blurb.
Three NFTs were made available in an ‘open collection’ (meaning up to 9,999 of each could be minted while they were available on the Nifty Gateway marketplace). However, that upper limit wasn’t in any danger of being hit: the three NFTs, which cost $313 each, were minted 675, 940 and 753 times before the sale closed. That’s 2,368 sales for gross takings of just over $741k.
