Music streaming services want to displace traditional radio as the first port of call for listeners, and part of their strategies involves adding more radio-like features (live audio included) to their services.
However, this is not just a one-way competition: we expect to see more radio stations fighting back by… adding more streaming-like features.
Witness Bauer Media Audio in the UK, which is launching ‘premium subscription online radio services’ for four of its stations: Scala Radio, Jazz FM, Planet Rock and Kerrang Radio.
Each service will cost £3.99 a month, giving listeners 20 online radio stations as well as on-demand shows, documentaries, artist interviews and other content – all without ads. Listeners will also be able to skip up to six tracks an hour.
