Last September we wrote about a partnership between Twitch and battle-rap league King of the Dot, which involved the latter’s Grand Prix 2020 tournament. Now the companies are working together again, on something even bigger.
King of the Dot is launching full six-month seasons of its competitions, with a $100k top prize for the winner of each season, and fans involved in voting throughout.
The ’S1’ format will kick off on 20 June with American battle-rappers ranked in divisions, competing to get into the sudden-death play-off rounds that begin in November. The model follows the structure of American pro sports leagues, with geographically-organised divisions: East, West, North and South. And all of this will be exclusive to Twitch, where King of the Dot now has more than 26,000 followers.
