Syng is the startup co-founded by Christopher Stringer, formerly a key member of Apple’s design team.
We’ve been tracking its path towards launch since May 2020, including its hire of former UMG, Vevo and Magic Leap executive Rio Caraeff as its chief commercial officer. Now the company has officially unveiled its first smart speaker, the Cell Alpha, and its companion app Syng Space.
The big selling point is ‘triphonic audio’, which the company says “transforms your space into a field of clear, detailed sound” for both music and home entertainment purposes. “You can put sound wherever you want, shrink it, move it, magnify it, and layer it,” explains its website. “Or let the Cell handle everything…” The app to do all this has been released for iOS, with an Android version coming later in the summer. The Cell Alpha is very much a premium device, though: it’ll start at $1,799.
