Music Ally’s team have been casting envious long-distance eyes at Australian festival Splendour In The Grass since 2017, when this YouTube video introduced us to the wonderful Confidence Man. This year, we’ll get to attend – if virtually.
The festival is launching Splendour XR, an ‘extended reality’ edition that will be available to watch from 24-25 July. The festival organisers have booked more than 50 artists to perform “never-before-seen live sets that have been created especially for this global online event”, with early bird tickets starting at A$34.99 for both days or A$19.99 for a single day, although they’ll get slightly more expensive over a series of releases leading up to the event.
It’s a full-on virtual world based on the real-life festival, with attendees able to create an avatar and wander around, as well as chatting to one another in the forums. It’s a partnership with virtual world Sansar, and this demo video offers a taste of how it will work.
