We know music/tech firm Musixmatch mainly for its services relating to lyrics: it has worked with the likes of Spotify, Apple Music and Instagram on various integrations of lyrics down the years, with Amazon, Shazam, Google, Tidal and Vevo also on its client list. Now the company is taking what’s become an increasingly common step for music/tech firms: it’s getting into distribution.
Musixmatch Pro is its new tier: “a self-service platform for all music creators and professionals to verify music credits, claim and administrate copyrights, distribute music, and get paid,” as the company described it yesterday. The ‘all music creators’ part is important here: “We want to re-match the recording and publishing worlds through a single entry point,” is how Musixmatch is pitching its plans.
With musicians being encouraged to sign up for notification as it launches, we’ll be interested to see more details (and the underlying revenue shares / pricing) as they are announced.
