We wrote about startup Breakr in February this year: it was a tool to help artists and labels identify influencers to work with on marketing campaigns. Now the company has raised a $4.2m seed funding round led by Slow Ventures, with a range of institutional and individual investors – including hip-hop veteran Nas.

Breakr also published some stats on its early progress alongside the announcement. It says that it has built a network of more than 50,000 influencers with a combined audience of more than 1bn followers, but also that it has “generated 150m views for emerging artists” through campaigns brokered through its service.

“Building tools to help creators manage and monetize is one of the most exciting opportunities in media today. Breakr is in a great position to build tools and services that not only add value to creators’ lives, but also anyone looking for distribution,” said Slow Ventures’ Will Quist in a statement. Breakr is planning to use the seed funding to grow its product, engineering and biz dev teams.
