Finding new ways for artists to gather their fanbases for communication and commerce alike is one of 2021’s key music/tech startup categories. The latest hails from the UK, is called Planet, and comes with the backing of management firm ie:music’s investment arm, as well as Communion co-founder Ben Lovett, of Mumford & Sons.

What is Planet doing? Well, ticketing is a big part of it: a tool for artists to get their fans voting on where they should play live, and even what should be on the setlist. The pitch being that they’ll be able to plan tours around this data, while ensuring that their superfans get access to tickets as early as possible.

Planet is also looking beyond ticketing though: for example ‘custom product drops’ offering “crowdsourced collaborations and first releases with brand or NFT partners”. Planet will be kicking off its first artist presales in September this year.
