Spotify Greenroom

It’s early days for the Clubhouse-like app Spotify Greenroom, with a full commercial launch planned for later in the year after its recent soft launch. However, some artists are already putting Greenroom through its paces. DJ Seinfeld, signed to Ninja Tune, is going to host a series of audio discussions under the brand of ‘Galazy Room’, which he says will focus on “the universe, space exploration, and unexplained aerial phenomena”.

So, it’s not something promoting his music, but rather his interests outside music – a smart move, we think, in terms of drawing people in beyond his existing fans. The first event happened yesterday (29 July), and the plan is to have a monthly series of 30-60 minute discussions with guests, each of which will be recorded and then released as a podcast on Spotify. An early and interesting example of how artists might use Spotify’s new live-audio offshoot.
