Michelle You co-founded music/tech startup Songkick back in the day, and after a period in the VC world as an investor, has now emerged from stealth with her new venture Supercritical.
It’s not a music startup as such, but it could certainly be an interesting partner for companies in the music industry. It’s focusing on the climate emergency, and carbon offsets for companies wanting to reduce their negative environmental impact.
“Our software enables you to measure, reduce, and offset your climate impact in weeks without the need for a sustainability team,” is the promise. “We only sell high-quality carbon removal because it’s the only legitimate route to net zero.” The idea being to help companies get up and running as quickly as possible, given the accelerating state of emergency.
Our Music Ally TV Show had an episode focusing on these issues in February, and there are a number of initiatives underway within the music world: climate targets set by Beggars Group and Ninja Tune; offsetting strategies by the likes of BMG; Impala’s sustainability programme; Spotify’s carbon offsets for advertisers; and ‘green’ music NFT startupsincluded.
Supercritical may be able to help even more companies get engaged.
